What is Middle Back Pain?

Middle back pain is fast becoming quite a common ailment. But the good news on this front is, that it's not very difficult to manage and cure. The symptoms associated with middle pain vary and so do the causes. But then again, as pointed above, these are problems that can be easily fixed and dealt with.

The most common cause of pain is strain on the muscles and tendons that give the back support and stability. There could be a plethora of reasons for such strain ranging from excessive exercising to sudden twisting or bending to lifting heavy objects. All this over burdens the muscles of the back causing them strain over and above what they can take.

At the same time there can be certain other reasons to which aren't activity oriented but more related to our lifestyle that an also be reasons for middle back pain. These include bad posturing, obesity, not sleeping right etc.

The middle back consists of twelve vertebrates, which are a part of the thoracic part of the spine. Each vertebrate is separated by a cartilage called a disc, whose function is to act as shock absorbers, facilitating movement of the vertebrates.

At times these discs bulge out of the vertebrates, that causes them to spill out intro the spinal section. This can cause severe pain not just in the middle back but this pain has the tendency to radiate down even into the limbs. The bulging out of the discs causes them to pinch the root of the nerves situated in the spinal column. Such bulged discs are referred to as herniated discs.

Growth of age makes an individual all the susceptible to back pain. With growing years, grows the amount of wear and tear that the body goes through. This wear and tear causes cartilage worn out, making the movement painful and difficult. Arthritis is another issue that one has to encounter with growing years, which is the inflammation of joints causing great difficulty in movement.

Rest is one of the most important things recommended by doctors to heal middle back pain. This is done to give ample rest to the strained muscles and support structures of the back. At times physical therapy is also recommended; this doesn't just de-stress the back muscles but also strengthens them. This acts as a prevention of re-occurrence of the same problem in future.

Prevention of middle back pain isn't all that difficult. And at the same time it promotes a healthier lifestyle and helps to keep a check on your weight too.
