How to Deal With Low Back Pain?

Lower back pain is the most prevalent form of back pain that we find. The lower back pain is caused due to acute stress that falls on the lumbar region of the spine. This part is known to take the heaviest load compared to any other part of the spine; in fact it is responsible for supporting the entire weight of the individual. The vertebrae of this region are larger than the others and they are attached to very powerful lumbar muscles. Thus, not surprisingly, it is also the most injury prone part of the spine.

Lower back pain is experienced from the region downwards of the ribs and upwards of the legs. It often worsens while sitting, bending and tossing from one side to another in the bed. Lower back can be either acute or chronic. In case of acute pain, it begins quite suddenly and lasts for about a period three months. On the other hand chronic lower back pain is persistent and lasts ones lifetime. It must be noted that chronic back pain, is often punctuated by spells of acute lower back pain as well.

One of the main causes of back pain is stress or excessive strain over the muscles, ligaments or tendons that support the backbone. Activities such as the ones below cause excessive stress on the lumbar part of the back

  • Poor posturing of the body.
  • Flexion of the back.
  • Lack of flexibility.
  • Lack of physical fitness.
  • Endless driving of vehicle over a considerable period of time without a break, more so if the vehicle is vibrating a lot.

But one must keep in mind that the reasons can be as varied as the number of sufferers that one an find. Though there are various reasons for the lower back pain, the cure is somewhat similar in all the cases. Some of the diagnostic techniques of treating lower back pain range from the conventional x- ray imaging to CT scans, MRI, bone scan etc.,

It is important to know that in some cases occurrence of lower back pain accompanied by fever can be an indicator of a more serious medial issue.
