Leaning towards one side is very bad for your back. Even sitting straight for longer periods can also strain the back. If you are forced to sit a lot, try doing this. Lean back completely on the chair with your feet placed straight on the floor and slight curve at your back. You can even try standing a part of the day, while reading any book or speaking on the phone.
It does not matter how much weight you lift, it’s only how you lift. This doesn’t mean you can lift anything that is very heavy for you. When you lift any object, move close to the object with head up and back straight. Stand and lift the load using your legs. Do not bend your body or twist as these actions will hurt your back.
Taking a good rest can help you with strain or acute injury that leads to back pain. However, it is just a myth that you should rest on bed. Taking rest on bed for more than two days will worsen the back pain.
Staying fit helps in preventing back pain. Back pain is very common among those who engage in vigorous activities throughout the week. Moreover, obesity causes stress on the back. It is advisable to cut down the excess pounds to stay away from pain.
The American Pain society and American College of Physicians guidelines recommend that patients with back pain should prefer alternative treatment options like massage therapy or spinal manipulation.
Acupuncture is a very good option for back pain if it is not relieved from standard treatments. Even physicians suggest this option. There are even other options like yoga, cognitive-behavioral therapy and progressive relaxation that can be considered.
