How to Use Pillows to Alleviate Back Pain?

Most of us use pillows only under the head. However, you can use pillows to alleviate back pain. Certain postures or sleeping positions can exert pressure on the spinal joints. By learning to place the pillows based on your posture, you can reduce the pressure and sleep properly

How to Use Pillows to Alleviate Back Pain?
Here are a few ways to alleviate back pain by using pillows:

  • Pillow between the knees: If you sleep to your side, you can place a pillow between your knees. The pillow will prevent the upper leg from rotating downward and keeps your spine in proper position. Make sure you use a firm pillow.
  • Pillow below the knees: If you sleep on your back, you can place a pillow below your knees. This will reduce the load on the lumbar spine and can alleviate lower back pain.
  • Body pillows: If you sleep to your side, body pillows can support the head and neck as well as knees and legs. Instead of using separate pillows for head and knees, you can go for a body pillow. When using this pillow, avoid throwing your leg upon the pillow as it can exert pressure on the lower back
  • Lower Back Support Pillows: These pillows can support the lumbar spine while sitting and can alleviate the pain. Sitting for long time can exert pressure on the lower back and cause pain. Lower back pillows fill the gap between the chair and the lower back. These pillows can also be used while sitting in a car

Pillows reduce the pressure on the spine and can also help you to maintain a proper posture while sleeping or sitting. Use the pillows the right way to alleviate back pain and also to get a proper sleep.
